Born to Lomax and Mary Thrower on March 14, 1943, in Montgomery, Alabama, Robert was a man of steadfast faith, and a devoted member of Believers Fellowship Church in San Antonio, Texas. He proudly served his country as a Technical Sergeant in the United States Air Force Reserves, dedicating many years of faithful service before retiring as a skilled technician.
Robert was a man who found great joy in his family and in his faith. A talented cook, he loved preparing meals and hosting family gatherings, especially during the holidays. He took great delight in decorating for each season and creating a warm, festive atmosphere where his loved ones could come together. He was also an avid fan of Alabama football, finding joy in the excitement of the game and cherishing it as another special reason to bring family close. A skilled handyman, he took pride in his home and enjoyed improving and building upon it, always finding satisfaction in his work. He loved fishing and especially mentoring and teaching his grandchildren how to fish and sharing life lessons with them along the way. He loved to travel and, together with his wife, explored all of the lower forty-eight states and visited England, Ireland, and Canada. During his years of service, he also ventured abroad to Panama, Thailand and the Philippines. He took joy in showing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren how to do the things he knew well, always taking the time to pass along his knowledge and skills.
He found it deeply important to teach his grandchildren and great-grandchildren that the greatest thing a person can be in life is a Christian. He did so by lovingly sharing the truth of Jesus, the importance of salvation and forgiveness, and the redeeming grace of God. His life was a reflection of God's love, and his devotion to his family will be remembered always.
He is preceded in death by his father, Lomax Thrower; his mother, Mary Thrower; his brother, David Thrower; his daughter, Sheila Thrower; and his stepdaughter, Susan Knight.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rhonda Thrower; his stepsons, Kevin McQueen and Jeff McQueen (Karen); his six grandchildren, Shannon Sampson, Daniel Knight, Crystal Knippa, JR McQueen, Paul Bryant McQueen, and Joseph Knight; his 14 great-grandchildren; his sisters-in-law, Terri Williams (Butch) and Mary Hodges; and his best friend of almost 60 years, Don McNeill.
