

Sylvia Gauerke Green passed on to a joyful heavenly reunion on Thursday April 21, 2011 at the age of 95. She was born December 4, 1915 to Walter C. and Adeline (Miller) Gauerke of Athens, Wisconsin. She moved to Universal City, Texas in April of 1971 where she and her husband owned and operated Mel's Food Store for 10 years. After retiring she stayed busy with her grandchildren, church and friends. Sylvia enjoyed gardening, singing, ceramics, crafts, and scrapbooking, was an excellent cook and loved reading and writing poetry. She was involved with PTA, Mother Singers, was a Den Mother, sewed up tents and flags by hand for the scouts and loved serving in multiple capacities in her church. Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband Milford “Mel” E. Green, her parents, two brothers, Melvin and Walter H. Gauerke and two sisters, Alice Lewis and Esther Emling. She is survived by her sons, Jimmie R. Green, Jeffrey L. Green, wife Mary, and Randall J. Green; grandchildren, David R. Green (wife Jamie), Jenny Lynn Chain (husband Chris), John E. Green (wife Miho); two great-grandchildren, Connor and Kaylee Green plus nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. A visitation will be held Monday April 25 from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. at Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday April 26 at 11:00 AM. at First Baptist Church, Universal City. Interment will be Friday April 29 at 9:30 A.M. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
