Veda M. Boyd, 83, went home to be with the Lord on May 13, 2012. She is survived by husband Robert C. Boyd (Major, USAF Ret.), son Gary and his wife Melda, and son Alan. She was predeceased by brothers Aubrey and Robert Burnside and sister Mary Christine Heater.
Veda was born in Good Hope, WV, on July 6, 1928 and attended Buckhannon Upshur High School and West Virginia Wesleyan College, where she studied art, met Bob, and married him on January 21, 1951.
Veda was active in the Girl Scouts, Air Force Family Services, Randolph and San Antonio Garden Clubs, RAFB Officers Wives Club, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Delta Delta Masters Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and American Red Cross. Veda's volunteer spirit was exemplified through her work in Family Services and Red Cross. Her Red Cross career is unique in that she was volunteer station manager at Randolph for 21 years--one of very few individuals to hold a station manager position as a volunteer.
Veda was a gourmet cook, gardener, and artist. She wrote restaurant reviews and gardening columns for the RAFB Officers Wives Club magazine. She had a cooking column in the Wingspread newspaper. Her artistic skills were expressed through a number of paintings that graced the walls of her home.
