The family of Virginia Clarke Crawford (Jinny), age 77, are saddened to say that after a two-year struggle with lung and liver cancer combined with Parkinson’s disease, she passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 8, 2025, with her family by her side. Jinny was born on March 10, 1947, in Gorman, Texas to her loving parents W.J. and Loraine Clarke.
Jinny was the glue that held her family together. Her love and devotion to her family were unconditional. They all knew that Mom would be there whenever or wherever they needed her. Jinny had a “can do” attitude and perspective on life. No challenge was too daunting. From a kitchen pantry, floor to ceiling garage shelves; outdoor Christmas displays to a covered margarita serving cart, she possessed and knew how to use whatever tool necessary to get the job done – whether that was a circular saw, chop saw, miter box, or electrical dill, she had it in her workshop, ready to go.
If she wasn’t tending to her flower garden and outdoor plants or building a trestle or flower box, Jinny could be found in her craft room, often designing a gift card, tree ornament, or other holiday treasure. She also loved to scrapbook, preparing one for each child and grandchild, siblings, and parents as well as one for motorhome excursions and more than 10 years of Clarke Family reunions. When she wasn’t doing that, she was perched behind one of her sewing machines working on a new set of pajamas or even stuffed teddy bears. But, of all her variety of interests and hobbies, her true love was quilting. Her quilts were not only well made and artistically done but were also painstaking expressions of her love for her family and friends. Each time she made a quilt for a loved one, she designed it specifically for that person. From a patriotic all-American design for her Vietnam War veteran brother, to tractor and dinosaur themed quilts for her two first born grandsons, she also poured her love into making a quilted teddy bear for her first great-grandchild. They were all made and gifted with immeasurable affection. Her home is adorned with her talented quilt work and was a source of admiration of all who entered.
Jinny and Joe, her husband of 59 years, enjoyed their retirement years traveling throughout the U.S. in their motorhome with their two dogs, Beta and Sadie, and oftentimes accompanied by a child or grandchild. Whether it be the Florida/Carolina east coast or the arid mountains of Utah, they delighted in viewing nature’s wonders. While they enjoyed staying at State and National parks throughout the Country, their favorite destinations were the State parks of Texas.
Jinny is survived by her husband, Joe Crawford, her son and his partner, David Crawford and Stephanie Turbeville, of San Antonio, Texas, son and daughter-in-law, James and Misty Crawford, of New Braunfels, Texas, daughter, Amy Crawford, of New Braunfels, Texas, grandsons, Trevor and spouse Aly Crawford, Tristin and Kory Crawford, granddaughter, Trinity Crawford, great grandson, Travis Crawford, and great granddaughter Gracelynne Crawford, brother and spouse, Bob and Susie Clarke, of Glen Haven, Colorado, brother, Dick Clarke, of Abilene, Texas, sister and her partner, Sharon Pennell and Jan Carpenter, of Abilene, Texas and sister Nannette Hart, of Lubbock, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, W.J. and Loraine Clarke, sister Yvonne Westerman, sister Linda Crisp, and bother Bill Clarke.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at 10:30 A.M at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Rd, Universal City, TX 78148. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 A.M.
