

Wayne was born on February 1st, 1936 in Isanti, MN to Alden and Edith Johnson. After graduating from Cambridge High School in 1953 Wayne continued his education and earned his Bachelor of Science and MD from Wake Forest University and the Bowman Gray School of Medicine. Wayne also earned a Master’s Degree of Public Health from Harvard University.
In 1955 Wayne enlisted in the US Air Force where he attained the rank of Colonel. Wayne held many military assignments including, Command Pilot and Chief Flight Surgeon. He also held the position of Director of Columbus AFB medical services. One of Wayne’s more interesting assignments was that of being flight surgeon for the first operational General Dynamics F-111s sent TDY from Nellis AFB in Nevada to Thailand. Throughout his military career he received several awards and recognitions including the Air Force Commendation Medal.
Wayne enjoyed many interests over the years including flying his Cessna T-37, caring for cattle on his ranch, fishing, traveling, listening to jazz and classical music. He also liked to tell stories about many of his life’s Journeys which were captivating
Wayne was preceded in death by his wife Judith R. Johnson. His parents Alden and Edith Johnson and two sisters, Lois Holstrom and Patricia Peterson.
Wayne was survived by his son, Wayne A. Johnson, Jr. and wife Sharon of Binghamton, NY. A daughter Camilla A. Hudson and husband Jay of Little River, SC and son Andrew S. Johnson of New Braunfels, TX as well as 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He also was survived by 3 of his siblings. Brother Jim Johnson of Minnesota and two sisters, Jackie Johnson of North Dakota, and Vicki Dahldberg of Minnesota.

A visitation will be held on Sunday January 28th from 3:00 to 6:00
A service honoring the life of Dr. Wayne A. Johnson will be held on Monday January 29th at 11:30. Following the service there will be a grave side service at 1:30 with military honors at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX .
