Chesapeake, VA - On May 15, 2024, Barbara G. McDermott, passed away peacefully in her home. Born in Norfolk, VA July 1935, to the late Raymond A. and Dorothy M. Gray. She was raised in Norfolk and graduated from Maury High School, Class of 1954 where she thoroughly enjoyed and excelled in art. Barabara worked for the City of Norfolk for a brief period, only leaving when she discovered her true passion of raising her children.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Bertrand T. McDermott. She is survived by her loving children, Son, Bertrand T. Jr and wife, Dyan, and Daughter Rae M. Guernsey and husband Tim. Barbara was an amazing Memaw and was loved unconditionally by her grandchildren, Kyle Carley, Kayla Chilcott, Kristen Chilcott, Tyler Carley, Stephanie Jernigan and Kasey Guernsey and their loving partners. As an amazing Memaw, she was promoted to a Great- Memaw to 5 great-grandchildren, Terran, Austin, Jak, Landen and Brantley.
Barabara lived an extraordinary but simple life, and she will be celebrated at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home with a viewing Tuesday, May 21, 2024, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. and a graveside service Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at 2 p.m. in Rosewood Memorial Park.
