

Chong Chin Yi, lovingly known as “Bruce,” was born on August 22, 1957, in South Korea and passed away peacefully on October 17, 2024, at the age of 67.
In the early 1980s, Bruce embarked on a new chapter, immigrating to the United States with hopes of building a life filled with promise and opportunity. He became a highly skilled hibachi chef, eventually building and owning his own restaurant, captivating diners not only with his precision and artistry but also with his humor and infectious joy. Through his work in various restaurants, Bruce touched countless lives, leaving behind memories of laughter, good food, and warmth.
Beyond his culinary career, Bruce was known for his tireless work ethic. He took on construction jobs, always striving to support his family and provide them with a better life. His dedication and determination were an inspiration to everyone around him, and he faced challenges with strength and dignity.
When he wasn’t working, Bruce found peace by the ocean. He loved spending time at the beach, especially fishing along the shore, where he felt a deep connection to nature. Those quiet moments by the water, often shared with family, became cherished memories that reflected his love for life’s simplest pleasures.
Bruce had a gift for bringing joy wherever he went. His sense of humor and playful spirit made him the life of any gathering, from spontaneous adventures to lighthearted moments with friends. He had an extraordinary ability to make people feel welcomed and valued, spreading happiness to all who knew him.
Bruce is survived by his devoted wife, Myong Hee Yi, and their two beloved sons, Min Soo and Christian, and four grandchildren, whom he adored. A loving husband and father, Bruce worked tirelessly to ensure his family’s well-being and happiness, always putting their needs first.
He will be remembered for his generous heart, unwavering dedication, and zest for life. Bruce’s memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to know him.
A funeral service to celebrate Bruce's life will be held Monday, October 21, 2024 at 6:00 PM at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N Witchduck Rd, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462. A graveside service will occur Friday, October 25, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Rosewood Memorial Park, 631 North Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462.
