Doris June Hammond

Doris was born in Terre Haute, Indiana June 12, 1928 and a graduate of Garfield High School.

She married Norman E Hammond August 27, 1949 and recently celebrated 67 years of marriage.

Her talents and gifts revolved around hospitality. Entertaining and encouraging others made her home inviting and comfortable place to belong. During retirement, Norman and Doris traveled extensively in the US and Europe. She was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Fort Wayne, Indiana and Faith Baptist Church in Winter Haven, Florida.

She is survived by her husband, Norman E. Hammond, currently of Virginia Beach; their children, Carol Bowers (Dave) of Virginia Beach, Robert Hammond of Winter Haven, Florida, Cathy Jelsema (Jim) of Holland, Michigan, and Dwight Hammond (Kay) of Manhattan, Illinois; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one brother-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William Stott and Margaret (Buck) and all of her 12 siblings.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, with Mr. Richard Emerick officiating. Interment at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, Virginia.
