Today we honor your 90 magnificent years. I’m honored to have had my 37 with you. There is a palpable emptiness without you, but we are finding our way. Take your rest in eternal peace Grandaddy.  From all of the family to all of the support through pictures, messages, a gift of flowers, phone calls, cards, everything, we give you our deepest gratitude and thanks. Through this we have recognized but always known how much Emery was loved and the impact he made through friendship and brotherhood. Again our deepest thanks for sharing with us his profound life. Let his memory live on!

Emery and I have been neighbors for more than 27 years and I will certainly miss his beautiful face. I enjoyed our conversations and always found comfort in talking with him. He was a wonderful friend and i will miss seeing him working in his yard. Rest Peacefully, my friend. You are loved and i look forward to seeing you and Peggy again in Heaven.

When Emery came into my life, he became the grandfather I never had but always wanted. I feel very lucky to have met and interacted with such an amazing person. He inspired me in so many ways, from the way he genuinely cared for those around him by asking questions about their lives and wanting to know their story, to the way he was on a constant quest for knowledge and self-improvement. He would share that knowledge and wisdom generously, and he truly loved his family. I will always cherish the time I had with Emery and forever be thankful for his kindness. I'm truly sorry for your loss.

So sorry for your loss.  Emery was a great man, a good friend and a positive and supportive person. Many wonderful memories going back 60 years. He was fun to be around, and especially a good influence on my 3 sons. We will never forget the impact Emery had on our lives. We will never forget the times together with Emery, Peggy and you.

My Uncle Emery took me off my WVa mountain to my high school graduation in 1988 and to my wedding in 1993. I was so honored to have him do both.

To all of us who were close to Em who shared his beliefs , his knowledge and his unselfish way of befriending and helping others..He was my friend as well as my family member.. His goodness will continue to live on in the memory of we who knew him and shared his life ..

Emery was a man of high moral character. He was a hard worker, loved his family, and was always there if you needed him.  I will cherish the memories, especially the times we spent fishing at Bells Island!

Emory Dixon is and always will be a friend of mind.
I first meet Emory and his wife Peggy more then 25 years ago when I was their mailman.  He was a MAGNET that pulled like-minded people in and made them stronger in mind and spirit.  He led by example.  He shared his knowledge freely.  he set an example for all of use to strive for.
Over the years we enjoyed many conversations about U.S. history and the people who built this country.
The one thing I cherish the most from Emory, is when he gave me a little adjustable wrench a few years ago.  He said to me, "There is always room for one more tool in your toolbox".  So, I ask all of you to look inside your hearts and open your toolboxs and join me in thanking him for all the great gifts he put in each of our toolboxs of knowledge and life.

What type of man was Emery Dixon? He was a man of his word. He was a man that other man looked up to . He was a leader. He loved his family and friends He will surely be missed.

I very much enjoyed spending time with Emory on the to the Moorefield Mine spent most of the day with him, picking his brain of his knowledge. I really will miss speaking with him at the club meetings, and the gem shows.
Til  we meet again my friend.

Emery joined the Tidewater Gem & Mineral Society in 1993.  Over the years he has attended many events, and he loved sharing his knowledge of minerals and the lapidary arts.  He was always one of the first to sign up for field trips.  In March he attended our amazonite mine field trip where he climbed 75 feet to the bottom on ladders that were straight up and down. The last field trip he attended was a gold prospecting trip and I had the joy of 4x4ing with him through the mud in my Jeep.  He was always so knowledgeable, outgoing, adventurous, and just a joy to be around.  Emery had a zest for life…he lived every minute of his life to the fullest and all could see he had a ball… doing it!  I always told him that he was my hero and I wanted to be like him when I “grow up” aka retire.  He would always respond with, “Don’t wait…do it now!”.   I am truly blessed and honored to have known such a Great Soul!  He will forever be very fondly remembered and greatly missed!

I will miss our telephone conversations and and books we discussed.. you and my sister were always there for me. You are not just a brother in law or a brother , you were my friend from the time my sister brought you to our home when I was sixteen years years you became part of our family and when you married my sister..  you were a good husband , father and my friend.. Rest in that lodge on High!! So mode it Be, so Mode it be!!

So sorry to hear of Emery’s passing. In my time in the Tidewater Gem & Mineral Society he has been such an example of sharing his knowledge and teaching others to enjoy the Earth sciences. Our club has been so fortunate to have him in it. God bless this fine man and prayers to his family.

Vicky, I am so sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing. He was so happy and healthy when I saw him at Lodge in October. He was always proud of you and delighted in telling of your accomplishments. 

What a blessing his life was. He lived respected and died regretted.

Emery and I have spent eight wonderful years since the death of our spouses. We lived life to the fullest, enjoying William Holland school of lapidary arts, making jewelry in his garage, dancing once a week at Shag Club, jumping out of airplanes, white water rafting, rock hunting, picnics in Jamestown, checking out all the Civil War battlefields, attending senior advocate lecture series, trips to Virginia Tech to see my grandchildren, helping each other keep up our homes. He was so outgoing and loved by so many people. He will be greatly missed.       Margaret Whitby

I am so sorry for your loss.
In the time I knew Emery with the Tidewater Gem And Mineral Society he was always one of the nicest, friendliest guys you could run across.
He was always a joy to hang around with at the gem shows and at the meetings would always take the time to talk to everyone as if we were all old friends.
He was also really kind to me when I lost my mom and I will always remember his kind words.
He was an asset to our hobby, our community, and he will be dearly missed.

Dear Vicky, I am saddened by the passing of your Dad...Understand your loss...He was so full of adventure, and helping others.
