Franklin “Preacher” Hensley, 74, passed away July 20, 2014 in Virginia Beach, VA. He was born in Henlawson, WV to Okey and Polly Hensley, who predeceased him. He was also predeceased by a brother, John Hale.
Preacher was an auto mechanic for most of his life, and was a legend in the local auto repair world. A mechanical genius, he was the one other technicians came running to when they were stumped, as he could diagnose and repair problems which baffled the “factory-trained boys”—usually without fancy tools or equipment. He was unselfish with his talent; many professional auto techs in the area got their first training at Preacher’s side. Also, he enjoyed making guitars, playing and listening to music, and especially the loving companionship of his family.
Mr. Hensley is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, and five children: Lisa, Rebecca, Nikki Jo, Franklin, and Okey. He has six grandchildren: Crystal, Anthony, Tiffany, Frankie, Austin and Haley; and two great-grandchildren: Larissa and Londyn. He is also survived by four sisters: Sally, Nancy, Eliza, and Becky; and by two brothers: Okey, Jr. and Lucian; as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and his Little Buddy, Taco.
A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, July 26th at 2:00pm at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Rd, Virginia Beach, VA. Following the service, there will be a reception for family and friends.
