

Wayne went to George Washington High School in Danville, graduated from Virginia Tech in 1957 and was a devoted Hokie fan his entire life. After working in Erie, PA. and New York, he returned to Danville in 1967 and became the youngest CFO in company history at Dan River Mills. In 1974 he moved the family to Virginia Beach and began a new career with the founders of Stewart Sandwiches. Many years later he invested in Tasty Freeze restaurants and auto parts stores in Virginia and North Carolina. In his late 60’s Wayne joined Integrity Staffing, he worked there into his late 70’s. He was also a marshal at Honeybee Golf Course until he retired in his early 80’s. After living many years in Chesapeake, Wayne moved into First Colonial Inn. The family would like to thank the staff there and at Living Well Assisted Living.
Wayne is survived by his son, Jeff Knowles and wife, Jennifer; grandson, Trevor and wife Leigh; great grandson, Parker and his grandson, Mark. He also leaves behind the family of his brother, Fred Knowles, who passed away recently, including Fred’s wife, Glenda, many nieces and nephew.
Wayne was predeceased by and will be laid to rest next to his wife, Claire Knowles at Rosewood Memorial Park. Services will be held privately. Donations in Wayne’s name can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. You may offer your condolences and share memories at www.kellumfuneralhome.com
