Jack was born in October of 1929 in Everett, Washington to Dorothy and Percy Redick. He grew up in Wenatchee and Bellingham with his beloved older sister, Shirley. When he was seventeen, he enlisted in the United States Navy, a decision which shaped much of his life, taking him on sea-duty throughout the Pacific. During that time, he sailed on the USS Rombach and the USS Fletcher, both WWII era destroyer escorts, and was eventually promoted to Master Chief Petty Officer, the highest enlisted rank in the Navy. After serving for 20 years, he was honorably discharged in 1967 and continued to work in other defense contractor positions in San Diego and then Hampton Roads, Virginia. Beyond his service to his country in the Navy, Jack was also devoted to his children. As a family, they lived in Maryland, California, Hawaii, and Virginia, and shared many adventures: attending sporting events such as football, basketball and baseball games; long road trips, camping, water skiing; and Jack’s favorite activity, golfing. Jack married Lucy Taylor on June 22, 1974, and they shared adventures internationally as well as several cross-country road trips in their RV, exploring the vast landscape of America together. He also pursued his passion for golf on courses throughout the world and had his “dream” retirement job as a golf marshal at Greenbriar Country Club in Chesapeake, Virginia. Jack and Lucy retired together in Virginia Beach and spent many years close to their children: Chuck, Nancy, Sarah, Kip and Kim. They also loved seeing their grandchildren and great-grandchildren and hosted an annual Christmas Eve family reunion at their home. Jack and Lucy also loved their church community at Sandbridge Community Chapel United Methodist Church where, as an extrovert who loved meeting people, he enjoyed serving as a door-greeter. Jack passed away surrounded by his family at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Virginia Beach, on March 13, 2020.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Dorothy Hamilton Redick and Percy Gladstone Redick; wife, Lucy Vaughan Taylor Redick; sister, Shirley Desmond; daughter, Nancy Taylor; and granddaughter, Kory Laurene Jones. He is survived by his children; Kip Redick and wife Sarah, Kim Forrest and husband Mark, Sarah Taylor, and Chuck Taylor. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Kymberly Forrest Carr and husband Paul, Caroline Redick, Caleb Redick and wife Danae, Matt Jones, as well as four great-grandchildren; Quincy, Grady, Leaven, and Kamryn.
