James (Jimmy) Rogers, Jr. passed away peacefully at home surround by love, Tuesday, February 25th at 3:15 p.m. He was a dedicated family man and leaves behind his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Deborah (Debbie) Rogers; 2 adoring sons Jamie and Jon; his devoted grandson Matthew; selfless brother Dennis Rogers and his wife Shirley; nephew Kevin Rogers.
Everyone who knew Jimmy knew that he suffered from diabetes from a young age, and all the complications that went along with it, but he never complained. Simply put, Jimmy loved life. Jimmy exemplified the saying, “When you fall down, you get back up again.”
Family was everything and just one such example is on Valentine’s Day of 2006, when his brother Dennis gave Jimmy a kidney which blessed us with an additional 19 years together.
Volunteering and community service were two of the most important things to him. The Knights of Columbus held a special place in Jimmy’s heart, and he felt as though they were not just friends but extended family. He was the Past Grand Knight of Council #3548 and also served as District Deputy. For over 35 years, he served as the Committee Chairman of the Ocean View St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
Another passion of Jimmy’s was working as an HVAC technician. He was an absolute technical professional and inspired future generations of HVAC professionals by teaching classes at the collegiate level at TCC.
Jimmy was a graduate of Norview High School, class of 1975; Graduate of Oklahoma University, majoring in his passion, HVAC; an avid Eagles fan and enjoyed watching them become Super Bowl LII Champions this year; and coached his sons “the twin towers” for several years, including being the assistant coach for their 14-0 championship basketball team at St. Pius X.
Jimmy’s smile and love of life will live on through his family and friends.
