

Jean Murray McDowell Mills, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 6th, 2024, at 98. She was born in 1926 in Dorchester, Massachusetts. Her parents, Robert and Eliza McDowell, were born in Scotland and immigrated to America in the 1920s. Jean made a profound and lasting impact on the lives of many.
Jean lived a long and remarkable life filled with love and devotion to her husband and family.
Jean's love for her family was unwavering. She is survived by her three children, Bob and his wife Teresa, Warren and his wife Mikealiene, and Sandy Mills, who were the light of her life. She was also the proud grandmother of Cameron, Cory, and Rory Mills and great-grandmother to Jacob, Madilyn, and Bella. Jean cherished her time with her family, always offering her unwavering love and support.
Jean is now reunited with her beloved husband, Vernon Mills, who preceded her in death. They shared many beautiful years raising their family, while Vernon was in the Navy. They built a life filled with joy and dedication to one another. After retirement, Jean and Vernon traveled to Scotland, England, and South Africa. Jean's life was a testament to kindness, resilience, and community spirit. She was known for her gentle demeanor, ability to unite people, and steadfast commitment to those she loved. Jean also had a deep passion for genealogy research, reading, and all things Scottish.
A graveside service will be held in her honor, and a joyous celebration of her life will take place at a later date. Instead of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Jean’s name to a charity of your choice.
All who had the privilege of knowing her will cherish Jean's memory. Her legacy of love, compassion, and family will live on in the hearts of those touched by her presence. Jean's impact on others was profound, and her memory will continue to inspire and comfort those who knew her.
