John Raymond Brzostowicz passed away peacefully on 28 August, 2023 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He was eighty years old. John completed a full career in the United States Navy, progressing from the rank of Seaman to his retirement as a Chief Petty Officer and leader of numerous sailors. He served with distinction in a broad range of assignments both overseas in the Pacific Theater of operations as well as in the United States. John was a Vietnam Veteran and earned a number of military accolades from his more than twenty years in the service.
Following his naval career, John pursued his passions in the field of martial arts and became an expert in samurai sword finishing as well as the art of Judo. He opened businesses in both of these fields providing services to clients both in Virginia Beach and across the Hampton Roads area. In his free time, he enjoyed peaceful time fishing as well as honing his fine skills at the shooting range.
John was a man known for his deep convictions and innate sense of what is right and wrong. He enjoyed debate and through debate had an ability to make those around him better. He also had a strong motivation to lend a hand to others whenever it was needed. A devout patriot, John supported veteran causes and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 4809 in Virginia Beach.
John was devoted to family. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mei-Chu, a daughter, Su-Ling, two sons, John III and Lee, two grandchildren, Davina Petersen and Alicia Morrow, and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Julian and Raymond, along with numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. John was predeceased by his parents, John Sr. and Mildred, as well as his older sister, Marion Mara.
A graveside service for John will be held Monday, September 11, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Rosewood Memorial Park, 631 North Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462.
