Joseph G. Blount

Joseph G. Blount, 89, went home to be with the Lord and his precious Bobbie on March 11, 2013. Mr. Blount was born in Norfolk, VA on Dec. 9, 1923 to the late Rev. Arnold and Clara Blount. He was a graduated of Norview High School. Mr. Blount honorably served his country in the US Army during WWII. He went ashore at the beaches of Normandy and bravely fought 1600 miles on foot to the Elbe River just outside of Berlin. Throughout the war he was in the Battle of the Bugle and all five major campaigns of the European War. He was wounded twice during the war and was distinguished with the Purple Heart Medal. At 88 he wrote a book titled "Footsteps Of A Foot Soldier." Mr. Blount was a member of Kempsville Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He owned and operated Princess Anne Fixtures.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta "Bobbie" L. Blount; grandson, Timothy Cooke; and son-in-law, Robert O. Kirby.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Ernestine Marie Kirby; son, Michael J. Blount and wife Peggy; sister, Virginia “Jenny” Kittle; granddaughters, Nicole Watz and Andrea Kirby; and great-grandchildren, Aayla Jude Watz and Brenden Watz.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wed., March 13, 2013 at Rosewoood Kellum Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thurs., March 14, 2013 at the funeral home with burial to follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Kempsville Rescue Squad. You may pay condolences to the family at www.kellumfuneralhome.com.
