I just learned of Joe's passing.  I want to give my condolences to his immediate/extended family and his friends. I knew Joe when he was a teenager when his best friend (Rick Hinzpeter) and I were friends.  I lost track of Joe around 1968.

Most of you remember him as an adult, veteran and family man.  I remember him as athletic, serious, hardworking teenager and a dedicated Washington Redskin fan.  

The three of us would play tackle football near Rick's home.  Joe was athletic. He was very fast and strong. He wrestled for Princess Anne High School one or two years in a low weight class. 

Joe admired Washington Redskins player Bobby Mitchell who would juke out defenders after catching the ball.  Joe would do the very same thing to Rick and me when we were playing football. 

Joe, Rick and I would drive to Sandbridge beach with a surfboard to try to do some surfing.  None of us were good at it but it seemed to be the thing to do at that time.  

One year I delivered the Sunday newspapers from my car (Renault Dauphine). The engine was in the back/the trunk was in the front.  We opened the front trunk and Joe/Rick stood in the trunk to throw the newspapers.  In addition to Joe/Rick throwing newspapers, they had to tell me where to drive.  Stupid thing to do at that time but we were teenagers.

I remember Joe getting a job at McDonald's restaurant.  Joe took that job very seriously as he did with most if not everything I can recall about his personality.

I remember Joe as a teenager. To me, he is frozen in time as a teenager. In thinking back to those few years I knew Joe, I believe he had a very happy childhood.  He had very warm and loving parents and a very close relationship with his siblings.

In a blink of an eye one goes from being very young to old.  As an honored veteran and family man, his life is much to be admired.  For those of you who knew him well, you are blessed to have been a part of his life. 

RIP Joe.  You earned it!

To the family of Joseph McCoy, I had the pleasure to serve with Joseph in the 329th Support Group for some years. Joseph was a nice man and never had anything to say bad about anyone. We both were short and this was one of the reasons he and I got along  very well. Joseph always treated me very nice. May God bless his family and Joseph served very well. Thank you for his services.

Yvonne and family, we are heartbroken to hear this news.  Joe was a great soldier,  and an even better friend.  We will miss him forever.

SFC Retired Joe McCoy was one of the nicest Soldiers I ever had the pleasure of working with in the Virginia Army National Guard's 329th Support Group in Virginia Beach, VA.  Thank you to his family and friends for sharing him with us. He could always make you smile or laugh even when things were not going so great. God bless you our friend and Soldier.
