Josephine Stenke

Virginia Beach, VA Josephine Helen Teper Stenke passed away January 23, 2011 surrounded by her family. She was born on June 6, 1925 to Frank and Sophie Teper in Detroit, Michigan. She attended Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Condon Intermediate, and graduated at Western High School.

When Jo became of age to work, she would give her parents financial support with an after school job. This she did with a loving, joyful heart. Her parents would state repeatedly how grateful they were for her unselfish support and love.

On May 4, 1946 she and George Stenke were married at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Detroit, Michigan. She and George were blessed in their union of 64 years.

George was in the navy at the time of their marriage and was soon stationed in Orange, Texas and among several other places thereafter. After several years of travel they finally made their home here in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Jo attended Holy Trinity for a short time, and then started attending St. Pius X in which has been a life long member.

In 1950, Jo and George were blessed with their only child, Linda, who married Ted Flannagan. Then in 1978 they were blessed with their only granddaughter Angelique Ragland. Jo is predeceased by her siblings, Edward Teper, Stanley Teper, Ann Teper Krezowiak, Irene Teper Poblock and Arthur Teper. The family wishes to send special thanks to Mrs. Stenke’s caregivers, Theresa Lane and Belinda Spruill.

Family will receive friends at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home at 5 to 7 pm on Wednesday, January 26, 2011. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11:00 on Thursday, January 27, 2011 in St. Pius X Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park with a reception to follow back in the Josephine Stenke Memorial Hall at St. Pius X. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions should be made to St Pius X School. All arrangements are under the care and direction of Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home and Memorial Park.
