Robert Watts, Jr. went to be with his Heavenly Father on October 11, 2010. He was born on December 7, 1926 in Robinette, WV the son of the late Robert and Nellie Watts of Man, WV and was preceded in death by his brother, William Mayhew of Houston, TX, At 13 he joined the CCC. Robert then worked in the coal mines before joining the Navy at the age of 16. He was a WWII Veteran, participating in D-Day and sailing into Tokyo harbor. Robert served 20 years aboard various ships including the USS Midway, USS Tarawa, and USS Vesuvius. Upon retiring as a Chief Gunner’s Mate he had several careers, including being top salesman for Guarantee Mutual Life, before he retired as a nuclear foreman from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, VA.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 64 years, Janis Godfrey Watts – whom he knew from the age of 10, his son, Dennis (Susan) of Chesapeake, VA his daughters, Linda George of Norfolk, VA and Roberta (Glen) Milligan of Hopewell, VA, 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Robert’s final resting place will be in Rosewood Memorial Park with full military honors. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 15, 2010 at 2 PM in Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Road in Virginia Beach.
