It is with great sadness that we share the peaceful passing of our dear mother, June S. Powis, who passed away on Friday, April 10, 2026, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at the age of 91, with her children and grandchildren by her side.
June was born on June 12, 1934, in Montreal, Canada. She was the beloved wife and soulmate of the late Robert A. Powis, with whom she shared 38 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a loving home and raised a close-knit family. They were a true team in life and love, enjoying travels back to Canada each year and later adventuring out west during their retirement years. He was the love of her life.
She was preceded in death by her loving daughter, Linda “Lindy” Powis, earlier this year.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving children: Randy Powis; Sharon Tari-Geisinger (Jim); and April Flynn (Dennis). She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Jon Tari, Shannon Flynn, Weston Powis, Kelsey Flynn, and Jeffrey Geisinger; and a great-grandmother to Aidan, Blakely, Liam, Ashton, and Logan. She was also a beloved “Auntie Junie” to many nieces and nephews in Canada, and a loving companion to her cherished fur baby, Allie Mae.
June loved being a homemaker and mother, roles she carried with pride and devotion. Her greatest joys were found in the simple, meaningful moments—being surrounded by her family and cooking meals for them, her bowling and working on crossword puzzles. While doing the things she loved, you could often hear her gently humming—her own special tune that became her signature and a reflection of her happiness.
Her greatest love was always her family. June’s warm smile, generosity, and friendly spirit touched everyone she met—whether at the bowling alley, around the family dinner table, in the neighborhood, or even in the grocery store. She had a way of making people feel welcome and cared for.
Though she is no longer with us, her legacy of love and kindness will live on in all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.
