Margaret Sarah Shenker was born December 31, 1936 in Philadelphia, PA to Margaret Buckley and Sydney Shenker. After graduating from Notre Dame Catholic Girls' High School in PA she went on to work as a secretary before meeting her husband George. Marge & George were married for 64 years and have lived in Va. Beach since 1982. They raised six kids and sadly said goodbye to their twin sons: Mark at one day old and Paul at 44 years old. Marge was a stay-at-home mom and main caregiver to Paul who had Muscular Dystrophy.
Marge was an active member of Church of the Holy Family and over the years, part of Garden Clubs and Writing Groups. She enjoyed reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and sudoku. She loved animals, travel and nature. Writing and praying was a source of healing for Marge who had a tumultuous childhood. Her grandmother had a strong faith in God which Marge gravitated towards. It was her relationship with God coupled with an unwavering desire to raise her children in a safe, secure environment that propelled her forward in difficult times.
Marge had several long-term friendships that spanned decades - a testament to her loyalty and kindness. Her ability to take care of others from her children to older family members in their final years undoubtedly healed parts of her soul.
Marge passed peacefully at home on September 12, 2023. She is survived by her husband George, five children and their spouses: Tom (Robin), Theresa, Steve (Kendra), Denise, and Marianne (Patrick), as well as seven grandchildren (Brian, Matthew, Brandon, Brittany, Carolina, Jenna, and Alexa). Marge's favorite story in the Bible was The Road to Emmaus [Luke 24:13-35] and the poem Footprints. So in lieu of flowers, take a moment and reflect on these words that gave her comfort or you may donate to the Holy Family Church Capital Campaign in her honor.
All services will be at Church of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Va Beach: Visitation September 27, 2023 from 6-8 pm and funeral on September 28, 2023 at 11am. Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home will handle any flowers.
