In His most peaceful way, God called MSC Ceferino "Rene" Lopez Mones USN (Ret) home to heaven on January 22, 2016. As a testament of God’s grace and comfort, his family was present at his side. Rene, a long time resident of Virginia Beach and veteran of the United States Armed Forces, was born on August 26, 1936 to the late Francisca Lopez and Santiago Mones in Villasis, Philippines.
In 1953, Rene graduated from what is now Urdaneta City National High School in Pangasinan, Philippines. He volunteered for service with the United States Navy at Sangley Point in Cavite, Philippines in 1960. He served during the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam War and retired from the Navy after 21 years of devoted service to his country. Rene later continued his career as a Navy Supply Clerk in the Civil Service at the Naval Operating Base in Norfolk, Virginia.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Angelina Clamucha Mones; son Jeffrey Ceferino Clamucha Mones; son CDR Geoffrey Anastacio Clamucha Mones, USN (Ret) and his wife Shannon; daughter Rochelle Clamucha Mones Bojo and her husband Richard; daughter Theresa Grace Clamucha Mones Elento and her husband Edgard; and six grandchildren: Tyler Mones, Spyncer Mones, Dakota Mones, Justin Mones, Alexis Elento and Marisol Elento.
Rene dedicated his life to raising four children and loving his family to his last days. He centered his home on the lasting bonds of family and friends, and the appreciation of only the most important things this life could offer. Rene, even as he is no longer with us on this earth, continues to lead his children, to be a light for his wife, and to inspire others by his extraordinary example.
