Ora Tarkenton Phelps entered the Church Triumphant January 16, 2011. Born in the Berkley section of Norfolk, January 26, 1910, she never ceased to amaze the extended family with her ability to recall dates of births and events and call all on their birthdays. An expert tailor, she worked for Finkelsteins and the Hub and made her own impeccable suits.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 42 years, Roy G. Phelps, Sr. Surviving are her daughter and husband, Patricia and Ray Freeman, and granddaughter, Amber Freeman; son and wife, Roy G., Jr. and Vivian Phelps; grandsons, Grant and wife, Suzi, of Chesapeake, and Gregg and wife, Donna, of Lynchburg; and great-granddaughters, Rori and Lindsey Phelps, of Chesapeake and Caroline Phelps, of Lynchburg. After her love for the Lord came her love of family and friends, who cherish memories of her fruitcakes and decorated Easter cakes she baked until her early 90’s, and especially her stories of life long ago.
