Rex passed with quiet strength on Wednesday, March 11th, 2026, with his wife beside him.
Rex inspired a legacy of grit, wisdom, and good conversation as wide as the horizon on a trail that never ends.
We all knew Rex as the man that showed up, which is one of the greatest gifts to your family, friends, co-workers, and community. Whether it was at the dinner table, Colorado, the dugout, riding shotgun or under the open sky, working or walking the beach with his wife and Theo.
Rex’s trail of words will continue to guide us long after the sun has gone down.
Rex was born in Limon, Colorado to Ralph and Rebecca Humrich on September 26th, 1950. Rex was one of seven siblings. Rex was the brother that they all were proud of and they would say ‘he tell it to you straight’. He was their first teammate and a keeper of family history.
Rex leaves behind three siblings; Randy, Rhonda, and Roxanne. Rex has joined his parents and three siblings; Becky, Rodney, and Roy. Plus, his family dogs; Lady, Sassy, and Toni and his childhood dog Rinnie.
Rex also leaves behind a family who was his greatest team and primary focus. Even though he has ridden ahead, his influence remains vibrant in the hands and hearts of his family and those who knew him best. His wife, Tracy Ann, was his partner in every season with love and devotion that didn’t need too many words to understand. His son Jayson and his wife Chrissy and three grandchildren; Furious, Ruckus, and Tinsely. Jayson would say his father was the best coach alive and a testimony to the blueprint of family. His daughter, Kathryn, and three grandchildren; Seth, Sedona, and Enan. Kathryn could only think that something needed to be fixed in Heaven.
Rex didn’t just leave us a memory, he left us a map. We know which way to go because he showed us the trail and the gate is closed, the fire will be lit and he’ll be waiting.
Written by Kathryn; inspired by a man and his whistle!
