Our sympathy to the Moreau family. Growing up on Hessian together and crossing paths throughout classes at PAHS. Jeff was a gentleman even then and had such an unexpected quiet but charming & funny wit. May he rest in peace!

Jeff eventually finished Patience, one of the finest VAN’s RV-8s in existence.  True to his nature, he let me fly her for 20 hours, Experimental RV N888JM.  When he became a corporate pilot flying a Hawker BizJet with his friend, Bob Caviness, they offered me a ride in the jet during a HURIVAC flight to Charlottesville.  
He was always sharing.  I could go on and on with Jeff stories.  He was down-to-earth, intelligent, multi-talented, a gifted craftsman, and an all-around decent human being.

In aviation, we use an old term, “Gone West.”  Some say it is an ancient saying. Others say it is founded in Native American tradition.  During World War I, “Gone West” was used to describe one no longer with us, who got their wings and flew off forever into the sunset.

The Dismal Swamp Rat Squadron
You may have seen the mention of the Dismal Swamp Rat Squadron in the Obituary.  
We would leave our respective hangars and gather at Jeff’s hangar at the end of the day for a final wrap-up of the day's events.  After all the work and flying were done, it became customary to share a Cerveza (just one).  This soon became a shot of medicinal spirits we referred to as “Shoulder Medicine” (others refer to it as Maker's Mark).   
Not having glasses or coffee cups to sip from, we found a limited stash of Styrofoam cups.  They were so limited that we had to save and reuse them.  Each was numbered and assigned to an individual.  The cups were stored in the paint locker with the Mineral and Medicinal Spirits.
Jeff’s fertile mind took over.  Like the Doolittle Raiders, each member of our close-knit group was awarded a Styrofoam chalice. And the Dismal Swamp Rat Squadron was born.  We worked together, flew together, ate, drank, and socialized together.  After several weeks, the Styrofoam cups disintegrated, and we officially commissioned the design and firing of 12 clay chalices with a blue-sky background and R (for RAT) 1 through R12 etched on the front of each chalice.  Guess who Rat 1 was?
On a flyout for breakfast or a $100 Hamburger, the planes would check in " Dismal Swamp Rat Squadron radio check,"
"Rat2's up."
"Rat 3 up."
"Rat 4."
"5." ...

I am so very sad to learn about the passing of my friend and co-worker.  Jeff supported me in so many ways during our time at 2WD Radio.  We did many remotes together…had fun and accomplished lots of traffic for the client.  Jeff…rest in peace and you will be missed.

I am so sorry about Jeff. He was always so nice.  I met Jeff in the 7th grade and I remember he had the prettiest eyes.  I know Jeff will be missed.  I am praying for his family and friends. ❤️🙏

Jeff and I met in  1984, we both lived in Timberlake and met beside the pool.  We discovered instantly that we had so much in common,, especially the love of music..
Not to mention that I had heard him on FM 99 and I remembered that he would do the helicopter traffic report back when I had a job that involved a lot of driving. He was thrilled that I remembered that.
I was working at the Winn-Dixie that was right across the street from Timberlake and I worked in the deli bakery area, I noticed that he would come in to get beer because the beer case was right to the left of my counter. We would talk and his beautiful eyes would just dance and that wonderful voice would reveal that wonderful sense of humor.
It wasn’t until a few months later when he told me that he didn’t really like drinking beer that much he just liked  to see me and talk to me.
He was an incredible man and so funny and so full of life
And kept a  very clean home, like not many men ever!
And if you knew Jeff, well you knew that he could not tolerate bad grammar..and don’t you dare say” pitcher” when you mean “ picture”. …enunciation was a big thing for him, which is why he was so successful in his career..
The last time we saw each other, he came to Williamsburg and we walked around the colonial area and I took him to some of my favorite secret places that only true locals know about…..
If I had known that would’ve been the last hug, I don’t think I would’ve let go.

Jeff and I met in Junior High School over our passion for music and playing guitar. He was genuinely nice to everyone and was one of the most encouraging individuals I've ever met. The world is a little less happier without him. Rest in peace, my friend.

Jeff, I was so saddened to hear the news of your passing.  I’ll never forget you. You were a true radio legend, passionate aviation enthusiast, and one of the funniest people I’ve ever had the privilege to know.

I’ll never forget the countless hours we spent chatting in the studio during your shift, laughing and joking over movies. You had a way of making everyone feel like a close friend, and your humor was unmatched.

I know you will be deeply missed by all who knew you. ❤️‍🩹 My thoughts and prayers are with your family, who loved you beyond words.

This weekend, I’ll be watching The Pope of Greenwich Village in your honor — and I’ll be thinking of all the times you’d shout down the hall, “Charlie, they took my thumb!!”

We did more than watch Jeff assemble his RV-8, Patience.  We helped build her.  Jeff relished the social aspects of being around people whose life passion was aviation.  It wasn’t just work – it was a labor of love, and we had fun doing it.  We always stopped for lunch, going to one of the local establishments to recharge our batteries. Winston's was a favorite.  Jeff entertained us with more of his stories.
 I remember the day we had an Engine Hanging Party for Patience.  Jeff had seen our work on our airplanes enough to trust us with his.  Even in critical times like this, there was fun to be had.  Jeff was EXTREMELY meticulous with his tools and the care of his airplane.  One of us would drop a wrench on purpose, letting it clang loudly on the floor, “OH CRAP! Don’t worry Jeff, it’s just a small dent, we can fix it with Bondo!”   He almost cried.  The work was never so serious and regimented that there wasn’t room for a practical joke.
While working on the engine, I’d put down a wrench to work with another.  I noticed Jeff would pick up the tool, wipe it with a clean rag, and put it back in the toolbox, precisely in its resting spot in the drawer.  It became a game for me, putting some tools in my pocket so he couldn’t put them away.  I’d bait him by finally placing a wrench on the floor at my feet.  As he’d reach for it, I’d grab it and tell him, “Leave it, I’m going to need it in 2 seconds.”
Jeff would get us, as well.  If one of us were changing our oil, he would go over to the drill press to find some metal filings.  He’d grab a pinch and sprinkle them in the oil catch can, saying, “Does your oil always have this much metal in it?”

Wow, what a sad day... Jeff was a great guy who always lifted you up with his big smile and heartfelt stories of building or flying his plane, the radio business, and doing voice-overs... Everyone who had the opportunity to meet him will miss him!

Jeff was a good guy with a great sense of humor. He had several little quips, none of which I can share here. I worked with him on the AM side of 2WD, and our paths crossed here and there in the great Tidewater radio family. I last spoke to him in the early 2000s where he told me all about his pilot career,  which he was very proud of.

Glad I got to know ya, Jeff. May you rest in peace.

I'm at a complete loss.  The feelings of sadness keep changing to smiles and chuckles.  The memories of all the great times we shared, and the cool things we experienced are too numerous to list.  Though his time on earth ended way too soon, those who knew him, know that he packed a hell of a lot into his time.  I'm blessed to have called him friend.  My heart hurts for his family and friends.  May God hold him and keep him.  Steve McKay Ettman.

I can't think of Jeff without a smile coming to my face. He was such fun to be around and a great guy. I remember when he started flying, it seems like it was just yesterday.  He will be missed. To his family, I am sorry for your loss.

I can remember Jeff growing up next store to him and the family.  When Cindy and I was in her room talking about the monkees etc. Jeff would wire her room to hear us and broadcast us. I know Tim was in on it too.  Oh the stories!!!
He will be missed even knowing he's in a better place singing with his mom,  along with Warren, 
Bill, Uncles, grandmothers and all the others.
