Sally (Sook Yin) Fok, age 86, of Virginia Beach, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 18, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born in Hong Kong and has lived in New York, Virginia Beach, and for the last 20 years in China before making Virginia Beach her final resting place. Sally is predeceased in death by her husband Yukin Wong.
She is survived by her sister, Connie; her brothers, Louis and Daniel (Amy); daughter, Stella (Peter) and son, Thomas (Eileen). She was a loving grandmother to Stephanie (Dan), Christopher (Audra), Brian (Allie) and Patrick as well as a doting great-grandmother to Ada, Atlas and Aster. She was also an affectionate “Goo-Mah” to many nephews and nieces and their children.
To say that Sally had a zest for life would be an understatement. Her refined choice of clothing, accessories and jewelry reflected her philosophy of always looking her best. She loved playing mahjong especially with family and friends and was known to have engaged in marathon sessions. Sally enjoyed singing karaoke when it involved traditional Chinese opera or Canto-pop. She relished eating fine cuisine and enjoyed it vicariously by watching cooking shows on television. During her quiet moments, she would admire flowers and marvel at their beauty. In recreation, she was still playing a mean game of table tennis well into her 80’s. But what she valued the most was being with her family and friends. That was her final wish in life.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, February 8, 2025 from 1 to 2 p.m., followed by a celebration of Sally’s life from 2 to 3 p.m. in the chapel at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home on 601 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach.
