Sybil is survived by her husband of 60 years, Aubrey Harrington, and her 3 daughters, Linda Karen, Sheryl Ann Decker and Julia Nell; four grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.
She served in the US Navy as a Wave. Sybil received her degree in Geriatrics at Tidewater Community College.
She was involved with many volunteer activities. She always said where there is a will there is a way! She started a Bible study at (Former) Heritage Hall nursing home with a Bible and a tape recorder with three residents to begin with. She was able to recruit a few other people to help out with the ministry and wound up with approximately 30 people a week attending and about 8 volunteers to help out. This ministry went on for several years.
Sybil also volunteered for meals on Wheels, Citizens right to protect the Elderly, The Suicide prevention Hotline, and Hospice. She was named Hospice volunteer of the Year in 1993. She was a former member of the Va.Tea Society as well as Red Hat Club.
Of all the things she did, her favorite pastime was attending Diamond Springs Baptist Church and spending time with her family. Preparing meals for others and opening her home at Christmas was one of her ways of showing love for others.
Mom never forgot to pray for her food at the end of her prayer she would say"And Thank you God for everything!" she knew the Lord and lived her life as a believer in Jesus, and always said "Remember God doesn't make any mistakes". Also, she would always say "God Bless You" when she hung up the phone.
A visitation will be held from 1-2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in the funeral home. Entombment will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park.
