Vernet Carl Jones

Vernet Carl Jones, age 68, of Grandy, North Carolina passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Mildred Jones, two brothers Roy A. Jones, Jr., and Larry J. Jones and a sister Kay Duncan.

Vern was born in Portsmouth, Virginia and graduated from Bayside High School Class of 1972. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from The University of Virginia. He began his career in law enforcement with the Norfolk Police Department and retired as a First Sergeant with the Virginia State Police Department.

Survivors include three children Forest Brian Jones, Ryanne Marie LaBounty and her husband Brian; and Matthew Wayne Jones; three grandchildren Alexander K. Jones, Oliver Jones and Payton Jones; a sister Anita Haymaker and her husband Kenny, and brother John Paul Jones and several nieces and nephews and his significant other Regina Andes and his best friend Redd Dog.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 18, at 1:00 pm at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home where a Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 pm officiated by Pastor Steve Smith. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
