Sorry to hear that Bill had passed.  My Name is Ray Hall and I too am a passed Master of Kempsville Lodge, I new Bill very well and to each of you in the family, he was a great Fireman and Man, Just remember the great times you had with him,.

My last memory I have of you is your 75th wedding anniversary. It was a joy to celebrate that momentous occasion with you all.  I have such found memories of sharing holidays at your house. I always looked forward to those occasions as a child. Rest in peace Uncle Bill. I send my love, prayers and condolences to the family.

My Mom , Frances Riggs , enjoyed and cherished your friendship in the Eastern Star, I remember so many stories and laughs especially decorating those chocolate easter eggs the Chapter sold as a fund raiser for years. That is when I met you when  I helped decorating those many tables of eggs.

Bill was my Masonic Brother and my friend,
My memory of Bill was when Jim Powell and me would be joking around in 
lodge and he would get mad!!!

I got to know Deputy Chief Bill Gurley after I relocated from the Davis Corner Volunteer Fire Department where I volunteered as a fire fighter to the Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad on 20th Street, connected to station 11.

Walking through the connecting door from Rescue 14 to Station 11 you never knew who you would be sitting next to in the kitchen or on the bench out in front of the station.  Often it was Bill Gurley. The conversations we had took us back in time to the memories of the Town and early City of Virginia Beach. Thank you Chief Gurley for sharing the stories and friendship.

Chief Gurley was a true leader, mentor, and one of the best fire ground commanders. His dedication and commitment grew VBFD to one of the best in the nation.  My condolences to the Gurley Family and may God comfort each of you…….. RIP Chief and thank you for your advice, and  dedication to VBFD…. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏.

Bill was an icon back in his day.  I remember fighting many a fire with him when I first joined VBFD.  He was a gentle and generous soul.  He shared his blessings with the Charity Food Pantry in his later years not knowing I
Managed the Pantry.  What a joy it was to make a personal
Connection and thank him for the support.
My sympathies to the entire Gurley
family.
