Moving to West View in 1953  I met  Bill and spent the next four years as a classmate, football teammate , hunting buddy, and like all his friends,  a target of his jokes and barbs.  He was  funny! Always  a quick wit!  For sixty-seven  years,  a loyal and trusted friend.  It has been a delightful  cruise, old friend.   
 Sandy,  Ruth and I both treasure our memories of our times together.  You have our continued love & support !  Our Condolences to you and your family.

So very sad to read about Bill.  We served together at CINCLANT in the early 80s.  Was so impressed with him, knew his stuff and was committed to do the best job possible for the Navy and country.  A pleasure to be around and to golf with.

CDR Bill Wunderly commanded USS Farragut (DDG-37) and many of those of us that served with him belong to the Farragut Ships' Association.  We honor his loyal, dedicated service to the Navy and mourn his passing.  Fair winds and following seas, Captain!

Sandy, so sorry to read of Bill’s passing. We shared many times together throughout our Navy careers, particularly here in Norfolk . However, one thing I vividly remember is our being in Key West in 1963 and you and Bill would see barracudas at your dock where you lived. Of course, President Kennedy was killed while we were there. 
Bill was a true professional Naval Officer who I loved working with. He always had my friendship and respect. I want to quote you a phrase from a pillow that Doll had and I place on my bed each day which always provides me comfort... “Real Love Stories Never Have Endings”.

Dear Sandra and all the Wunderly family. I served onboard the Farragut '37 leaving just months before "Our Captain" took command, but visited her often up to 1981. Visiting all my old shipmates of the bridge as a Quartermaster 1st Class, I spoke several times to your husband and father, giving me the opportunity to affirm everyone's high opinion of him. 

I remember clearly QM1 Richard Elmer,  who I was assigned to when I first reported onboard out of boot camp and A School,  introduced me to him just after he took command during one of those visits. Working side by side with him on the bridge, I remember him telling me Captain Wunderly was one of his best officers he served under during his 30 years in the US Navy.

To this day I have the privilege to forever carry those few moments of knowing this great man. Everyone who served on the Farragut '37 has remained close and consider all who served on her as family. Today all of the "family" is mourning his lose.

Bill was such a great, caring, wonderful man. We all have so many great memories of Bill. We lived across the street from Bill and Sandy for a number of years and it was such a delight.  He will be missed by many

I have very fond memories of Uncle Bill, Aunt Sandy and Cousins Chris and Susan when I was a child visiting our family in Pittsburgh, PA. Uncle Bill had a wonderful way of joking around with me that put me at ease and made family events, usually with far more adults than kids, fun. He and all of you are in my thoughts and prayers. 

Our deepest sympathy to Sandy,  Susan, Chris and families. We loved Bill.  He was a role model husband, father and grandfather, a patriot, and a great golfer. He enriched our lives and we will continue to think of him often.
