

Mr. Willie L Carballo Sr. 94, of Va. Beach, Va. departed this life to his heavenly home June 2, 2022. Willie known as “Lew or Stumpy,” was born in Norfolk, Va. to the late Francisco and Ruth Carballo. He is predeceased by his wife Edythe Carballo and daughter Joan Wilson.
Lew served over 35 years with the government. He worked his way up from working in the Laundry to the Director of Environmental Services at the Public Health Service Hospital in Norfolk, Va. After that timeframe, he worked 15 years at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. After retirement, he also worked at Value City for 5 years. Hardworking, by nature during his government career, he was a partner in his own custodian business. Mr. Lew was an avid sports enthusiast. He played football at Booker T, Washington high school. That is where he got the name Stumpy because he was small but fast. Off seasons, he played baseball. As a family man, he played with the Hi Fives a community baseball team. He was a member and serve as an Elder of Messiah Presbyterian Church which transformed to New Horizon Presbyterian Church. He also served his Church as custodian. He would often take his children and later his grandchildren on Saturdays to clean and have his Church ready for Sunday mornings.
He is cherished in memory by his children, Deborah L Johnson (Calvin), Arvis Bowden, Valeria R Davis (Phillip), and Willie L Carballo Jr.; grandchildren Sean T Carballo, Mynndie R. Bowden, Katrina L Johnson, Andrew Timothy Wilson, Phillip Davis Jr., Nicole Stevenson, Brandon A Davis; great-grandchild, Jaylen Stevenson, and a host of nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at 11am at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home. Interment will follow immediately at Rosewood Memorial Park. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.kellumfuneralhome.com
