

Born in Providence and formerly of West Greenwich and Saunderstown RI, retiring to Brooksville, FL, Janet was the daughter of the late Louis and Edna (Dowding) Clegg.
Janet was employed as a Teacher’s Assistant at the Hernando Christian Academy along with instructing Tai Chi, until age 78, to fellow seniors prior to her retirement. She was a RI foster parent for several years to over 30 children. Janet was a Deacon at Suncoast Christian Church in Brooksville FL and a former member of Church of the Master and Warwick Central Baptist in RI. Probably her most rewarding time was caring for all of her grandchildren and Aaron and Sam.
Janet enjoyed spending time with family and friends, gardening, puzzle assembly, crocheting blankets for her family, along with motorcycle riding in the Northeast. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren remember spending time with her being tickled, playing games, pillow fighting, baking, and squirt gun fights.
Janet is survived by her sister, Carol Harley of Manchester CT, brother in laws Kenneth Harley of Manchester CT, and Walter and wife Mary Thorpe of Whitehall, PA, her daughters Pamela and husband Charles Moreau, Carol and husband Ronald Bergeron, her son, Kenneth Thorpe, her grandchildren, Patrick, David, Kimberly, Shamus, Meaghan, Kendra, and Hunter, as well as her great-grandchildren, her great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitations will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023, beginning at 11:00 AM with a service to follow at 12 noon in the Mausoleum at Highland Memorial Park in Johnston, RI, with burial to follow. A service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 in Brooksville, FL.
