Born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Joan and her husband Joey raised their children in North Providence before moving to South Kingstown, where she loved going to the beach, enjoying cookouts in the yard, spending time with her many cousins, and watching her grandchildren grow up.
A proud graduate of the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1952, Joan dedicated her life to caring for others with compassion and grace well into her seventies.
Joan was predeceased by her loving husband, Joseph A. Brennan, with whom she shared a lifetime of cherished memories. She leaves behind her loving children: Deborah A. Cunniff (Mark), Michael J. Brennan, Timothy C. Brennan, and Cheryl A. Brennan. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Lois J. Luciano. She will always be “Granmere” to Caitlin Corcoran, Colin Cunniff, Meghan Shippee, Michael C. Brennan, and great-grandmother of Ryan, Joey, Calvin, John, Erin, and Alex.
Joan loved escaping the cold Rhode Island winters with Dad to spend a month in Florida, sitting on the beach with a good book. She enjoyed spending time with her sister, especially on the many cruises where they could never find their way around the ship. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren—never missing hockey games, soccer matches, step dance recitals, or band concerts.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Friday, December 19th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Augustine Church, 639 Mt. Pleasant Avenue, Providence. Burial will follow in the RI Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Exeter, RI. Visiting hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the RI Veterans Home, 480 Metacom Avenue, Bristol, RI 02809.
She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
