David D Wood

On January 9, 2015, David D. Wood, age 76, of Payne Lake passed away peacefully from this life to the next after a brief battle with cancer. He was surrounded by loved ones. Dave will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Norma (Drummond) Wood, to whom he was married for 52 years; his children Allen (Bev) Wood, Nadine (Ken Moon) Courtnay, Mishelle (Mark) Schoen, and Gary (Jackie Godley) Wood; grandchildren Kristyn Courtnay, Joshua Courtnay, Kelsie Courtnay, Julie Schoen, Dan Schoen, Sherry (Dustin) Rawson, Matt (Clare) Wood, Stephanie Wood, Greg Wood, Ethan Wood, Alaina Wood and Bak Wood; great-grandaughter Nora Wood, sister-in-law Jeannette (Bob) Kessler, brother-in-law Gary (Melva) Rogers, and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife Patricia (Rogers) Wood; son Michael Wood; parents Lester and Mildred Wood; brothers Bill, Lester and Jim Wood; sisters Blanche Anthony and Grace Wiggins. He was in the US Navy from 1955 until 1959 and served on the USS Pine Island in the 7th fleet. Dave retired from Riviera Die and Tool in 2001 after 45 years in the tool and die trade. He loved hunting, fishing and woodworking; and he created many memories with his family and friends. The family will welcome friends on Friday, January 16, 2015 at the Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home in Wayland, MI from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the Wayland United Methodist Church at 11am, with family receiving friends from 10am until the time of service. Pastor Jeff Williams will officiate and military honors will be performed at this time as well. Interment will be at the North Star Cemetery in Gratiot County, Michigan on Sunday, January 18 at 1:00pm. Those wishing to offer expressions of sympathy are encouraged to make a memorial contribution to Down Syndrome Association of West Michigan, Faith Hospice in Byron Center, the Wayland United Methodist Church, or the charity of your choice.
