

Pete Stull, age 93, passed away in Jenison, Michigan November 29, 2025. He was born March 17, 1932 in Kentucky. He began his military career in 1955 and married Sylvia Tobicash in 1963. They had three children Nicholas (deceased), Kimberly, and Christopher (Kit). While he and Sylvia divorced in 1988, they remained lifelong friends, continuing to celebrate family holidays together.
Pete loved people and was gifted at telling stories. He left a positive impact on everyone he met and always had a joke to make them smile. He was a career military officer spending time in the United States Army and the Michigan National Guard. He served two tours in Vietnam. Pete was also stationed at Fort Knox, KY and continued his military career with an assignment in Germany. He continued to serve full-time in the military assigned to the Michigan National Guard. He held assignments as the commander of the 246th Armor Battalion and Commandant at Fort Custer. He was responsible for the first draft of President Ford’s funeral.
After a long and distinguished military career, he became the city manager of Wayland, Michigan for the next decade and finished his working career as the village manager in Caledonia, Michigan. After retirement, Pete began the snowbird life, spending time each winter in Florida.
After settling in Wayland, Pete met and fell in love with Haroldene Bruinsma and became great friends with her son, Joe, whom he treated as another son. Pete and Haroldene enjoyed time with friends, family, and traveling. After Haroldene passed away in 2002, Pete was fortunate to have found love one final time with Joyce Coleman, becoming great friends with her daughter, Joyce Ann and son, Jeff. Pete once said, “I am so blessed to have had three families."
Pete is preceded in death by his son, Nicholas Stull; four brothers and three sisters; and his former loves Haroldene Bruinsma and Joyce Coleman. He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Stull and son-in-law, Chris Booth; son, Christopher (Kit) and daughter-in-law, Katie Stull; bonus son and wife, Joe and Oanh Bruinsma; former wife, Sylvia Stull; grandchildren Nicholas Stull, MaKenna Stull, Myra Booth, Andy Bruinsma, Matt Bruinsma; and his many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews.
Visitation will be held 10 a.m. Friday, December 5, 2025, with a service to follow at 11 a.m. at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Services - Wayland Chapel, 312 N. Main Street, Wayland, MI 49348. The burial will take place immediately following the service 1:30 p.m. at Fort Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Road, Augusta, MI.
