Judy Shafer, age 65, went to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, January 6, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Alberta Nutz; sister, Bonnie Lewis; brother, Tommy Nutz. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Ron Shafer; children Brian (Kara) Peterman, Emily (Dennis) Behler, and Brandon Shafer (Danie Pattee); grandchildren Madison and Mason Peterman and Oliver, Cora, and Elin Behler; sister, Cindy (John) Fogg; brothers- and sisters-in-law Karen (Jerry) Hendrick, Doug (Chris) Shafer, Don Shafer, Wayne Moore, and Brad Lewis; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Judy was a giver of all givers! 24 years ago, she gave a kidney to her husband, Ron. She had a huge passion for sewing. Judy loved her title of wife and mother, but most of all she absolutely loved her title of “Granny."
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2023 at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home, 312 N. Main St., Wayland, MI 49348. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, January 13, 2023 at Wayland United Methodist Church, 200 N. Church St., Wayland, MI 49348, with visitation from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Judy, contributions may be made to Wayland United Methodist Church or National Kidney Foundation.
