Martha J. Lapekes

Martha J. Lapekes, age 90 of Wayland, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, January 17, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents Leo and Kathryn Geller; husband, Roman Lapekes; son, Larry Lapekes; son-in-law, Dan Johnson; sisters Helen Gray, Mary Jackson; and brother, James Geller. She is survived by her daughters Lori (Vincent Ofeno) (Garceau) Lapekes, Lisa Johnson, and Lorraine (Aaik van der Poel) Lapekes; grandchildren Shaunna Lawrence, Jennifer (Justin) Vandenberg, Tera (Brian) Wierenga; great-grandchildren Aiden Davis, Luna Vandenberg, Taylor Olds, Zac Wierenga, Autumn Wierenga; daughter-in-law, Terri Lapekes; sister-in-law, Lorraine Ostrander; and her honorary daughter, Jeanne Braendle-Stevens.

Martha and Roman bought the family farm in late 50s and moved there in the summer of 1962. The farm was the hub of family gatherings, hosting both sides, including everything from corn roasts, bonfires, never-ending soup pots, poker games, snowmobiling, sledding with the grandkids, and many other activities. She enjoyed fishing, scrabble, slot machines at the casino, gardening, bowling, softball, going to Florida with Roman, several cruises with family, and most of all having family around. Martha will be remembered for her sense of humor, her wit, and her insatiable love of ice cream! She will be greatly missed.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 159 131st Avenue, Wayland, with a time of visitation one hour prior. The family will receive relatives and friends from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home, 312 N. Main St. Wayland.
