Sherry Monroe

Sherry Monroe, age 71, passed away April 19, 2013 in Wayland, MI. Sherry was born April 25, 1941 in Traverse City, MI, the daughter of Donna and Jerry Miller, who preceded her in death. Sherry married Max Monroe in September of 1959 in Traverse City. Their children are Max (Cyndie) Monroe, David (Jennifer Gates) Monroe, and their beloved daughter Anita Modreske, who preceded her in death in 2001. Eight grandchildren survive her along with her sisters, Anita (Burl) Ghastin and Liz Kauffman, and John (Linda) Miller. Sherry's passion was for spending time with and caring for her husband, children and grandchildren. She extended that passion for her nieces and nephews and the children of Wayland. Sherry worked for many years with children at St. Therese and the Wayland Elementary Schools as an aide and helped many learn to read, and is remembered by many of those students. Sherry also brought communion and visited the patients at Sandy Creek Nursing Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 AM Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at St. Therese Catholic Church, with Father Christian Johnston officiating, with visitation prior to the service beginning at 10 AM. A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 2265 Livernois Rd, Troy, MI 48083, or donate a book to the Wayland Elementary School children or Wings of Hope Hospice.
