Vernita Weesaw, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Weesaw; son, Bernard Weesaw Jr.; parents Wanetia and Ben Jackson; brother, Gerald; sisters Mary Lou and Marilyn. She is survived by her son, Paul Shue; granddaughter, Ashlee Weesaw; sister-in-law, Lorraine "Shubshekwe" Gideon; aunt, Celia Osawabine; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Vernita was proud of her heritage and was a proud member of the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians. She was raised and lived on Bradley Indian Settlement for many years. She was an avid gardener and was a true animal lover. She loved to travel and also found great pleasure in visiting with family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at Luella Collins Community Center, 419 126th Ave., Shelbyville, MI 49344, with visitation from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. prior to the service.
