She will be deeply missed by her mother, Linda; her brothers Brent (Sue) and Rex (Missy); and her nieces and nephews, Taylor, Morgan, Elijah, Macey, Oliver, Molly and Elliot. Additionally, Wendy was adored by many incredible friends and colleagues. Especially close friends were Beth and Howard Hilton and their children Noah, Jonah, Lydia, and Simon.

Wendy managed the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital where she was employed for 33 years. She started her career as a pediatric nurse. She leaves a legacy of tireless devotion and passion for the staff, patients and their families. Wendy received her BSN from Calvin College in 1990. She earned her MBA in 2021 from Davenport University, while undergoing chemotherapy. Wendy will be mostly remembered for her sass, generosity, fearlessness, strength in adversity, and unwavering love and support for her family and friends. Her amazing soul touched the hearts of many people.

The family plans to host a private graveside service. A celebration of life will be held on July 2, 2022; more details will be provided on "Wendy Winger's Celebration of Life" Facebook page. All are welcome to attend. In memory of Wendy and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, 25 Michigan St. NE, Suite 4100, Grand Rapids, MI 49503. Wendy was such a dear friend, always full of sass and humor but mostly care and compassion for everyone she touched! She was an amazing leader that I learned so much from and will carry her legacy on in my practice. Prayers for peace and healing to all that knew Wendy.

Sweet Wendy,
We had some amazing times at DeVos. You were such a great colleague to work with to handle those really tough days. You were kind, loving, energetic and always willing to offer what you could. I have such fond memories of our management days and our 9/11 conference-hurricane-rental car road trip back to Michigan. You are dearly missed!

It is hard to find words to say to express how many of us that knew and loved Wendy could say. She was in every way, an amazing woman and friend. As a boss, she was more than anything you could ever imagine. She will be missed by so many. I pray for peace for her family and peace for our PICU family as we will miss our dear friend.

Oh the memories of Wendy, from meeting you for the first time, when this city girl moved to little Moline. You were a wonderful friend. We had many fun times together from elementary school through High school. Junior high gym class with you and Beth and doing gymnastics is quite a memory. We had a lot of fun times together in little “east” Moline.
My condolences to all your family, you will be greatly missed.

Wendy was the best boss I ever had! She taught me so much. I've never known a woman like her. She was strong, kind, knowledgeable, knew how to manage people, caring, considerate and truly made HDVCH PICU what it is today! She had such a big heart. I will never forget her! These pictures are our PICU Leadership Team. Wendy expected a lot of her staff, but gave so much more! I loved these times that we got to spend together outside of work. My heart goes out to her family, who was such a HUGE part of her life. I always said "I wish I had Wendy for my Aunt"!! May God comfort you all in your time of sorrow. May you feel His presence as you say "goodbye" to such a great lady and as you try to do life without her. May He give you everything that you need!

I first met Wendy when she hired in as nurse tech along with her friend Beth. We worked together for many years not only as a nurse but also as a manager, but most of all as a wonderful friend. She was wittingly funny and could brighten any ones day. You will be greatly missed by everyone who knew you. I know I will think of you often. R. I. P. and sincere condolences to your family. 💔💔💔🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
