Albert Stanley Garrett, 78, of Deer Park, Texas, passed away on February 13, 2023. He was born in Houston, Texas on September 17, 1944 to George Maryon Garrett and Bernice Valrie Logsdon Garrett. He was married to Sunne Cope for 20 years. Stan had a career in industrial sales for several different companies throughout his lifetime. He could sell anything to anybody. Stan grew up in Galena Park, Texas, and eventually went to college at Rice University on a football scholarship.
He married Diana Banta and they raised their four children in Deer Park, where he resided until his passing. He was actively involved in his community and was a beloved coach to many young athletes throughout the years — including softball, baseball, and his first love – football. Stan was a member of the Jaycees of Deer Park, Rotary Club, and the Planning and Zoning Board of the City of Deer Park. It was a bittersweet day when he had to resign from the board due to his health. He was so happy to be honored by the city when they recognized him for his years of service to the city he loved so much. He was also involved with the Masonic Lodge of Deer Park for many years. He discovered that he enjoyed acting after attending many plays and musicals that two of his children were involved in through the Junior Art Park Players. He became a member of the Art Park Players himself and was involved in several productions with “Smoke on the Mountain” being his favorite. He was also a founding member of the Art Park Players season tickets.
Stan enjoyed traveling with his wife, Sunne, the last several years. But when he was home he loved sitting in his backyard enjoying the beauty of nature.
Stan was raised in the church and loved Jesus and was looking forward to spending eternity with Him. He was very active in whatever church he was attending. He sang in the choir and was also a Sunday School teacher. He taught youth when his children were teenagers, and eventually taught adults. In the last several years he was a member of Bethel Baptist and attending services when he felt up to it.
Stan is survived by his wife, Sunne Cope. His four children – son, Heath McClean Garrett, daughter Laura Kathleen Baker and husband Stuart, daughter Kelly Ann Garrett, and son Michael Sean Garrett and husband Jeffrey Price. Six grandchildren – Ashley Garrett, Brandon Garrett, Koryne Gray and husband Justin, Kaitlyn Campbell and husband Charlie, Kassandra Baker-Sizemore and husband Jonah, and Kamille Baker. Three great-grandchildren – Parker Freimuller, Addison Gray, and Camden Gray.
