He was born June 20, 1947 in Vernon, Texas to Arthur Garza Rios and Cresenciana Lopez Rios. He was one of nine children. Alexander was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He bravely stepped forward and served two tours with the 3rd Battalion, 27th Marines, 5th Marine Division and the 1st Battalion, 23rd Marines, 4th Marine Division. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from April 1, 1965 until his Honorable Discharge on January 14, 1969.
He married Bertha Alicia Rios on July 11, 1981 and had three children: Elizabeth Diane Rios, David Alexander Rios, and Esther Rios.
He worked as a Postal Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 28 years. He joyfully retired to his ranch in Linden, Texas where he indulged in his skill of farming and gardening. He enjoyed passing his days riding his John Deere tractor and baffling most with his ability to bountifully grow fruits and vegetables with his green thumb. Being an excellent marksman in the Marine Corps, he continued his passion for shooting and collecting guns. He shared this passion with his children.
Alexander had an unshakable love for the Lord and openly shared his testimony to many, often leading friends, family, and strangers to accepting Jesus Christ into their hearts. He has left behind precious memories to hold dear by many. If you ever met Alexander, you walked away knowing two things: He was a fighter with a loving heart and the first person to lend you a hand if you were in need.
A memorial will be held at a later date to honor Alexander for his military service with full Honors followed by a reception with his family and friends. The date and time will be determined in the upcoming months.
