Alice was born June 1, 1932 in Pittsburgh, PA to James H and Marion Grant and was a member of Crafton Methodist Church. She attended Second Ward Grade School and Langley Jr-Sr High School. In high school, she played intramural sports and lettered in “library”. After high school graduation in 1950, she worked a couple office jobs where she was trained in keypunch data entry. One day at lunch just two months short of her 20th birthday, she enlisted in The United States Naval Reserve (Women's Reserve), better known as the WAVES.
Alice did her boot camp training in Bainbridge, MD where she received training as a “Dentalman” and where she met and a handsome sailor named Charlie. After a short courtship, they were married at Crafton Methodist Church. After a short honeymoon in Houston, TX, they returned to Charleston where she was stationed at the Naval Hospital. From Charleston, she was transferred to Jacksonville, FL. After discharge, they moved to Houston and started their family. In addition to caring for her family, Alice worked in data entry for almost forty years, first as a keypunch operator then progressing to the computer keyboard.
Alice had a strong faith in God, treasured her family, and was a true patriot. She actively participated in the political process. She loved working at campaign headquarters, political conventions and proudly served as a local precinct chairman for decades. Most recently, she served as secretary of the Freeway Manor Civic Club (using her gifts of spell-check and grammar review). She was a lover of sports, word games, classic country and gospel music, and holiday celebrations (especially Christmas). She was known as the “Ultimate Garage-Saler” and had a knack for bargain hunting. In later years, she enjoyed both the hunt and selling on E-bay. She especially enjoyed finding KLM houses to add to her collection. In her later years as a member of Hope Church, Clear Lake, she was involved in the women’s Bible study and was the “Lady-in-Charge” of the annual youth garage-sale.
Alice was preceded in death by her father James H Grant; her mother Marion B Grant; her husband of 49 years, Charles F Konz, Jr; and her brothers Donald R. Grant and Richard E. Grant. She is survived by her sister Barbara and husband Ronald Kaintz; daughter Pamela and husband Stephen Plaisance; son Charles F Konz, III and wife Debbie; son Stewart G Konz, daughter Alison Blanchette; grandchildren Kirby Konz, Abbey and husband Walter Lengel, Lauren and husband Mark Zemanek, Jeff Blanchette and fiancé Ashley Granger; Connor Konz; Ryan Blanchette and wife Daytona; great-granddaughter Juniper Luna Lengel and her brother-to-be, as well as many nieces, nephews and others who were dearly loved.
