

August H. Pritzlaff Jr., 86, died Sunday, October 24, 2010 peacefully in his sleep of natural causes. He was born on August 25, 1924, in Culver, Indiana at Culver Military Academy where his father, August H. Pritzlaff Sr. was an instructor. His mother, Helen S. Pritzlaff, and father preceded him in death as well as his wife of 40 years, Joan C. Pritzlaff. He is survived by his two sons, August Pritzlaff III and Raymond Pritzlaff and wife Lynn; two grandchildren Mathew and Catherine; his brother John Pritzlaff and wife Shelby of Crofton, MD; and two nieces Susan March and Carol Kather.
He was a graduate of Evanston Township High School in Evanston, Illinois and a PhD Chemical Engineering graduate of Northwestern University.
He served his country aboard the destroyers USS Ault and USS Hank as a Naval Officer, eventually retiring as a Lieutenant Commander after teaching for many years in the Naval Reserves.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service honoring August's life on Saturday, October 30th, at 2:30 pm at Forest Park East.
August had a lifelong passion for railroading and was a longtime member of the Train Collector's Association. In lieu of flowers, donations in remembrance of August H. Pritzlaff, Jr. can be sent to Train Collector’s Association, PO Box 248, Strasburg, PA 17579-0248, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
