On June 17, 2024, our mom, Barbara Maye Gundermann passed away peacefully, with her family around her. Barbara was born on August 22, 1941, in Goliad, Texas to Dewey and Ruby Henry. She grew up and lived in Yoakum, Texas. She was an accomplished pianist and began playing piano at an early age. She won many awards for her piano competitions and weddings. She graduated from Yoakum High School. She was in the Honor Society all four years of high school. She was active in Chorus, FHS, and Pep Squad. She participated in Typing contests and Volleyball. She and her family were members of Yoakum Church of Christ.
She was born into a very musical family. Her father played the violin, her older sister played the violin and some piano, and her little sister also played piano. Barbara’s passion was to only play classical music, it was her favorite music. She married young and had four children. Her babies were always first in her life. She moved to Pasadena and began working at NASA. She worked there until she retired.
In 1969, she met her beloved husband, Frederick Gundermann Sr. while taking ballroom dancing classes for singles. He had three children of his own. August 15, 1969, they were married, which combined both families into one family of nine. Barbara and Fred celebrated 54 years of happiness.
Frederick passed away recently on April 7, 2024. Both of them were to be together, to live out the rest of their lives in assisted living. Frederick was never able to join his beloved wife, Barbara. Mom always had time for her family. She worked all day, came home to cook for nine, and still had time to talk to her children and so laundry. She was a wonderful wife, friend, mother, sister, daughter, grandma, great grandma. She will be missed by all of those who love her.
She leaves behind her seven children, Kim Andrea, Frederick Jr., Jamie, David, Dana, and Stephen, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her beloved husband, Frederick Gundermann Sr., two sisters, Margaret Faye Henry and Mary Condry; her parents, and one grandchild, Keith Fitzgerald preceded her in passing.
“Strength and honor are her clothing”: She is confident about the future. Her mouth is full of wisdom: kindly teaching is on her tongue. She is vigilant over the activities in her household: She doesn’t eat the food of laziness.”
