Born on September 2, 1947, in Dallas, Texas to Lester Samuel and Wanda Arlene Gilmore. Barbara was married to the love of her life, Chris Leon Webb for 35 years at the time of his passing and never remarried.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Beverly Webb-Hill of Deweyville, Texas, son, John Webb of Lake Charles, Louisiana, 5 grandchildren, Daniel Ray Lee and Wife, Kayla Lee of Deweyville, Texas, David Claude Hill of Deweyville, Texas, Aaron Walter Webb and Wife, Charlotte Webb of Beaumont, Texas, Holly Olivia Webb of Atascocita, Texas and James Lester Hill of Deweyville, Texas. In addition, she also is survived by 3 great granddaughters, Mary Jane Dawn Lee, Sativa Elaine Lee and Indica Ann Lee. She is survived also by her sister, Beverly Braddy of Argyle, Texas. Barbara is also survived by her nieces, Heather, Stacey, and Samantha as well as many other cousins and family members.
Barbara was a Graduate of Moore High School Class of 1966 in Moore, Oklahoma. She was in the marching band, was a majorette and loved football.
She met her husband at a Southern Baptist Crusade in Oklahoma, City where she then ended up marrying him. Barbara had many roles in her life. She was a Pastor’s wife, mother, companion, and friend.
She loved to fish, and saltwater fishing was what she enjoyed most. She would pack up the daughter in law, grandkids and anyone that wanted or would go and off to Galveston, Texas they would go.
She loved to travel and take trips. She always had time for the family and any family event she was sure to be there. She enjoyed cruising after her retirement from SBC. Barbara and her sister went on may cruises together. Some of their destinations were to the Grand Cayman, the Panama Canal, an Alaskan Land and Sea Cruise to name a few. Every time she would leave, she was sure to return with presents and goodies for all to be had. She was a giver and got much joy sharing her adventures with friends and family. At the time of her passing she had already 3 more cruises planned with her sister, Beverly. The one she really was looking forward to was the 2 week Hawaiian cruise in November 2022, unfortunately she will not make that one.
She had a love for Crocheting, sewing and crafts. She was so loved and known for her Afghans she would crochet whenever she would find out someone was going to have a baby or a new grandchild. She had a talent that allowed her to make lasting bonds and friendships in addition to blessing someone else with her talents.
She had a love of cooking. When on deployments for her Insurance Adjusting career, it was nothing for her to whip up something and take it to the group and especially the younger fellas that were away from home and their spouses and or families. She wanted everyone to have a home cooked meal even if it meant her doing the cooking. She would provide food in containers and explained if her containers came back, they could be filled again, she got her containers back.
She Retired from SBC in 2005 with 29 years of continued service. She began in 1977 as a temporary Zero Operator in Wichita, Kansas. She put in for a transfer to Texas and was told temps usually do not get transfers. She was transferred to the Southwestern Bell Telephone Building on Jefferson Street in Houston, Texas and she and her family made their home in Houston, Texas. She had numerous friends she made through out her career. She received numerous awards and commendations.
After her retirement, she got into the insurance industry as a Property Adjuster along with her son, John back in 2006. She became a Licensed Insurance Adjuster on June 24, 2005. She worked for various Independent Adjusting Firms over the years, Pilot and Eberls usually most of the time. She was employed and working for Pilot at the time of her fall on October 12th. She gained the respect of all her colleagues in the industry as she brought a strong work ethic and a love for people and customer service. She made a countless number of friends across all the firms when she worked for State Farm as an independent adjuster. Again, she was known for her kind words, thoughtfulness and her Afghans that she would make for her friends.
She fought the good and hard fight but, she was tired of fighting, her earthly body could not take much more and was ready to do it her way. She chose her own timing, and no one could have stopped her. She went to heaven on January 6, 2022 just 7 days after what would have been her 55th Wedding anniversary. She truly missed her beloved Chris and it was obvious. She wanted so much to get better but God decided he needed her more. She touched so many during her time here on earth and so many have been blessed by her. Although our hearts are hurting and we miss you terribly, we bid you a loving farewell mom until we meet again.
Love,
Your children, grandchildren, and great granddaughters.
