CARLA SURIECE SHARPLES, 67, of Kemah, TX passed away May 17, 2023 at her home after a sudden battle with heart disease. Carla was born June 28, 1955 in Wichita, Kansas to the late Mack Maurice and Doris Sue Cantrell of Ft. Worth, Texas.
She graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1978 with her Bachelor of Science of Nursing. She practiced her nursing career in Los Angeles, California and Dallas, Texas. Carla started her career as an emergency room nurse and retired as director over the Advanced Cardiac Life Support instructors at Methodist Hospital in Dallas. She maintained her certification and skills by accompanying, and responding with the Dallas Fireman/Paramedics and the Care Flight team to emergency situations.
Carla married Richard (Dick) Sharples in 1990, and left nursing to become a wife, mother, and homemaker. They soon found room in their busy life to host two foreign exchange students, one from the Czech Republic (Petra) and another from China (Xue). In addition to supporting her husband’s career, which included traveling all over the world, she pursued her lifelong interest in interior décor, embroidery, draperies and textiles. Some of Carla’s favorite pastimes where sailing, scuba diving, sewing, traveling, reading, having fun with friends, and volunteering with various organizations.
To complete their family, Carla and Dick adopted their two year old daughter Jacqueline June Li Xue Sharples, in 2003. Sadly in 2005, Carla’s beloved husband Richard passed away, leaving Carla a single parent, on which she focused all of her passion and creativity.
Carla will always be remembered as a loving, generous, caring, compassionate mother, sister, aunt, and friend, who loved her family above all else. Her love of life, fun, and adventure has been a gift to all of those who knew her and will never be forgotten.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Sharples; mother Sue Lively Cantrell Farmer and husband (Stanley); father, Mack Maurice Cantrell; and two uncles, Freddy Lively and Connelley Cantrell.
She is survived by three children, her daughter Jacqueline June Sharples, her son, Dr. Scott Sharples (Gina); her daughter, Allison Moore; three grandchildren, Dylan Sharples, Kate Shriki, and Heidi Moore; her brother Randy Cantrell (Lois); two sisters Cathy Olge (Charley) and Sandra McNeill (Patrick); two stepsisters Kim Hart (Darrell) and Karen Farmer.
