Carolyn Mathias Kaltenbach, passed away on February 27, 2023 in Cypress, TX. She was born to Julian and Elizabeth Mathias in Los Angeles, CA, on October 31, 1933, so of course, her favorite holiday was Halloween. Her teen years were in Texas, and she was proud to be a Bulldog from North Dallas High. She married John Kaltenbach, a young geologist and Naval officer, and they enjoyed a long and happy life together for over 60 years. Everyone affectionately referred to them as Lady Carolyn and Captain John.
They loved attending Navy festivities, traveling, and supporting Texas A&M football, the alma mater of their daughter, Julie Kaltenbach Cross. In fact, Carolyn didn't allow anything orange in the house! Carolyn worked several years in retail management, but once she became an empty nester, she became involved in the Bay Area Women's Assistance League. She also took up tennis and played well into her 60's. But, her favorite pastime was being Gram. She was the #1 fan of her grandson, Josh Simmons, and she adored and spoiled her great grandchildren, Ella and Jaxson. Carolyn is predeceased by her parents, and brother, Bill Mathias. She is survived by her husband John, daughter Julie, grandson Josh and his wife, Lindsay, great grandchildren Ella and Jaxson, cousin Janet Cook and niece Cathy Cook McCrae, niece Leslie Brogan (Tim) and nephew Billy Mathias(Leslie).
The family would like to thank all of Carolyn's loving caretakers at Avanti Assisted Living in Cypress, as well as those at Accent Hospice Care. She left this world knowing she was truly loved. A memorial service will be held at 10:00am, on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, TX 77598.
Carolyn will remembered as strong in her opinions, but loving from her heart.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ForestParkEast-FHC.com for the Kaltenbach family.
