

Charles William Piel, 84, passed away on April 2, 2014. Charles was born in 1929 in Thrall, TX to Henry and Ophelia (Obermiller) Piel. After graduating from Thrall High School, he moved to Houston, TX and attended the University of Houston. He was previously employed by Brocksteins and retired from the Texas Air National Guard in 1980 and also, from the 147th Fighter Wing, Texas Air National Guard, Ellington Field in 1989, obtaining the rank of Master Sergeant. Charles was the former owner of Piel Welding and Fabricating, Houston, Texas. He was a hard worker who brought creativity and artistry to whatever task he undertook and raised his family with a never quit philosophy and that when you start something, you finish it.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Barlow and Glen Roy Piel and sister, Enola Gross. Survivors are his wife of 63 years, Choyce; two sons, Rodney G. Piel and wife Carolyn of Santa Fe, Texas, and Brad Piel and wife Kim of Manvel, Texas; four grandchildren, Charles Thomas Piel and wife Melinda of League City, Texas, Christina and husband Jaime Valdez of Pearland, Texas, Justin Ryan Piel and Cameron Alan Piel of Manvel, Texas; three great grandchildren, Hunter Lee Reichert, Paytton Leanne Rowe, and Cash Jaxen Piel of Alvin, Texas. He is also survived by three step grandchildren Brandy Davis, Shane Huebner, Heather Gardner of Santa Fe, Texas; numerous step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, loving family members and friends.
Charles was an active member of Epiphany Lutheran Church, Pearland, Texas. Visitation will be held Friday April 4, 2014 from 5:00p.m.-8:00p.m. at Forest Park East Funeral Home 21620 Gulf Freeway Webster, Texas 77598. Funeral Services will be Saturday April 5, 2014 at 10:00a.m. at Forest Park East Funeral Home Webster, Texas with Pastors Jon Salminen and Aaron Kalbas officiating Interment will be at Forest Park East Cemetery immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the 100 Club of Houston, 5555 San Felipe #520, Houston, Texas 7056, in Charles’ name, of which he was a Life Member.
