

Cira Cantu Gonzalez of Angleton, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving husband and children on Thursday, July 02, 2015. Cira was born February 01, 1922 in Rancho San Diego outside of China, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Wencenlado Rodriguez and Maria Inez Cantu Rodriguez. She resided in Galveston and Santa Fe for many years before moving to Angleton. Cira was a precious daughter, devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother and faithful friend to many. She was the foundation of a united family and the last survivor of the Rodriguez-Cantu family. Cira is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 66 years, Antonio Gonzalez; her son Juan Antonio “Tony” Gonzalez; four daughters Rosa Elba “Rosie” Martinez (Pearland), Sarah Leyva and husband Ernest (League City), Celia “Sally” Castillo (Houston), and Pauline McNally and husband Terry (Houston); 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews residing throughout the United States and Mexico. A celebration of Cira’s life will be held at Forest Park East Funeral Home in Webster, Texas. Visitors will be received on Monday, July 06, 2015 between 5:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. with a rosary beginning at 6:30 P.M. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 07, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. with interment to immediately follow in Forest Park East Cemetery. Family and Friends are invited to The Leyva Household after the interment for refreshments; 2350 Meadowlark Lane, League City, TX 77573. Pallbearers will be grandsons Jose Louis “Joey” Rodriguez, Ernest “Ernie” Leyva, and Joel Castillo; her son-in-law Ernest Leyva; grandsons-in-law Jon Cashel, Homero Rangel, and Josh Otto; and nephew Jesus Angel Alvarez. Honorary pallbearers will be her nephew Onesimo Alvarez; and son-in-law Terry McNally.
